Campbell will hold official groundbreaking ceremonies for its new football stadium on Thursday, Mar. 15 at 7:30 p.m. The event will feature music and fireworks and is free and open to the public.

The stadium will be located just off highway 421 in Buies Creek, across from the campus. The Camels will begin play in 2008. Searchlights will mark the location of the groundbreaking.

The coach appointed to reestablish the Camels' long-dormant program is Dale Steele, who served as an assistant on the East Carolina staff under Bill Lewis (1989-91) and Steve Logan (1992-94).

East Carolina fans are invited to join the Conference USA tournament champion East Carolina women's basketball team and Coach Sharon Baldwin-Tener on Monday for an evening of celebration and anticipation as the team watches the unveiling of the tournament pairings on the NCAA women’s basketball tournament selection show.

Festivities begin at 7 p.m. at Harvey Hall of the Murphy Center and the brackets are scheduled to be announced at 8 p.m.

Calling it a "good" start, East Carolina coach Skip Holtz wrapped up the second week of spring workouts by guiding the Pirates through a 130-minute practice late Thursday afternoon.

The session was ECU's fifth of the spring and the third conducted in pads.

The Pirates completed their first phase of the spring with detailed fundamental individual and team drill work. The team will begin in-depth offensive and defensive schematic emphasis after returning from spring break.

ECU will have nine more days remaining that will feature contact work, including two intra-squad scrimmages. The Purple-Gold game is scheduled for April 14.
