Sophomore guard LaCoya Terry scored 30 points to lead the No. 3 seed East Carolina women's basketball team to an 85-81 win over second-seeded UAB Saturday in a semifinal game of the Conference USA Tournament in Tulsa, OK.

Terry's heroics included a pair of free throws with 1.7 seconds remaining that sealed the win, which propelled ECU into a nationally-televised championship showdown with No. 4 Rice.

Senior center Cheries Mills recorded 17 points and 12 rebounds for East Carolina, which also got double-figure scoring from junior forward Nicole Days (11), sophomore guard Jasmine Young (11) and sophomore guard Impris Manning (10).

C-USA player of the year Carmen Guzman scored 26 points and Diamond Rogers added 20 for UAB.

The Lady Pirates' matchup with Rice, which will air today at 5:30 p.m. on ESPN2, will mark the team's first appearance in the league title game. The winner will automatically advance to the NCAA Tournament.

ECU moved into the semifinals with a 76-72 win over No. 6 seed Southern Methodist on Friday evening.

East Carolina conducted its second official offseason workout with a 150-minute practice Friday afternoon at High Field within the Cliff Moore practice complex.

After beginning camp with a pair of introductory workouts in shorts and helmets, ECU coach Skip Holtz and his staff will direct the Pirates' first full-pad session on Monday afternoon.

Keith Patterson has returned to Tulsa's coaching staff as co-defensive coordinator and linebackers coach after spending the past two months as co-defensive coordinator at Louisville.

Before leaving with Steve Kragthorpe for Louisville, Patterson spent the past four years on the Tulsa coaching staff. In his first three years at Tulsa, Patterson coached the linebackers when Graham was the Golden Hurricane defensive coordinator. Last year, Patterson was Tulsa's defensive coordinator and safeties coach.
