Southern Methodist successfully defended its crown in the 2007 Conference USA women's swimming and diving championships at Houston. SMU's 853 points are the second most points scored in C-USA swimming championship history.

Rice finished in second place with 653.50 points and East Carolina came in third with 586 points. The host Cougars finished fourth with 577 points, followed by Marshall with 381.50.

Men's teams from league schools East Carolina and SMU along with Hawaii also competed in the C-USA men's invitational. SMU also claimed the meet title in that event scoring 923 points. Hawaii finished second with 890 points, while East Carolina claimed third with 731.

The Memphis Tigers extended the nation's longest win streak to 15 games with a 78-77 overtime win against Gonzaga.

Chris Douglas-Roberts drove for a layup with 5.6 seconds remaining in the extra period for the winning margin.

It was the second straight game Gonzaga has lost in Spokane, the first time that has happened since Santa Clara and Saint Mary's defeated the Bulldogs in January, 1995.

The East Carolina track and field team made its final preparations for next weekend's Conference USA championships with 14 top 15 finishes at the Virginia Tech Challenge in Blacksburg, VA.

For the women, Kharya Brown took home third place honors in the 200 meter dash with a time of 24.51 seconds. For the men, Terrance Myers' mark of 19.49 meters in the weight throw earned him third place honors.

The Pirates return to action in the Conference USA indoor championships, hosted by Houston, Feb. 23-24.
