East Carolina women's basketball teammates Jasmine Young and Cherie Mills have been named second-team All-Conference USA.

The 5-foot-5 Young ranked fourth in assists (5.21) and the 6-foot-4 Mills was fourth in field goal percentage (.486). Young, a sophomore, also was named to the league's defensive team.

The East Carolina men's golf team carded a 303 in the final round to finish with a two-day total of 44-over par and claim fourth place among 15 teams at the Wexford Plantation Invitational in Hilton Head, SC.

Chattanooga captured the overall team title, shooting a 33-over par during the 54-hole tournament. Marquette placed second with a 36-over par (299-206-295=900), while USC-Aiken was third (307-304-296=907), just one stroke ahead of ECU.

Mike Van Sickle of Marquette was the lone player to shoot under par and carded a three under-par 213 to win the individual title.

ECU junior Chris Ault fired a nine over-par (79-70-76) to earn a ninth place finish, one stroke ahead of teammate Andre Thorsen, who was just one-over on the final 18 holes (78-75-73).

Duke receiver charged in automobile fatality
Duke receiver Raphael Chestnut, 20, was charged with misdemeanor death by vehicle following an accident which took the life of Hubert Douglas Smith, 50, of Ruffin, on Sunday morning near Reidsville, according to the state Highway Patrol.

Chestnut, who was not seriously injured, also was charged with driving left of the center line. The patrol reported that alcohol or drugs were not involved. The accident happened on a curve during heavy rain.
