Moore, Allison, Hands make All-Conference USA
The career progression ladder has been
made complete for East Carolina linebacker Chris Moore, at least in terms of
yearly recognition by Conference USA.
Moore was named first-team
all-conference Tuesday along with ECU wide receiver Aundrae Allison. The
pair were joined by teammate Marcus Hands, a third-team selection, on the
all-conference units announced by the league office in Irving, TX.
For Moore, it was the fourth straight
year he has earned all-league recognition, earning a higher level of
recognition each step of the way. This season's first-team selection caps
off a career that began with Moore being named to the all-freshman team in
2002, followed by selections to the third and second teams, respectively, in
2003 and 2004.
Moore is a senior from Havelock,
Allison is a junior from Kannapolis and Hands is a sophomore from
Wilmington. Allison and Hands were both first-year players for the Pirates.
Memphis and Southern Mississippi led
the league with five members on the first team. Memphis senior DeAngelo
Williams found his name in a familiar spot as he earned first-team running
back honors for a league record third-consecutive season.
Division champions Tulsa (West) and
Central Florida (East) each had four first-team selections, as did UAB,
which finished in a 5th-place tie with ECU in the East Division.
Texas-El Paso led the league with 11
selections overall on the three-team squad, placing eight on the second team
and three on the third unit.
The All-Conference USA team is voted on
by the leagues 12 head coaches and media members in each conference city.
In its Tuesday release, the league said it would announce today its
offensive, defensive, and special teams players of the year as well as the
recipients of its freshman and coach of the year awards.

Indians to face C-USA foe in New Orleans Bowl
Sun Belt Conference co-champion
Arkansas State has accepted an invitation to play in the New Orleans Bowl on
Dec. 20 against a team from Conference USA. The game will mark ASU's first
bowl appearance as Division I-A member.
This year's game will be played in
Lafayette, La, instead of its normal home, the Louisiana Superdome, because
of the effects of Hurricane Katrina on the New Orleans area.
The Indians, 6-5 overall, ties with
Louisiana-Lafayette and Louisiana-Monroe for the Sun Belt title, but
prevailed according to the league's tiebreaker formulae.
Arkansas State last played in the postseason in 1987 as a I-AA member.
