It didn't happen in time for the East Carolina football team's two exposures this season on College Sports Television (CSTV), but area Pirate fans will likely embrace Thursday's news from Cox Communications North Carolina as better later than never.

The regional cable provider issued an announcement from its Greenville office that it will launch CSTV on its Cox Digital Cable Service on January 1, just in time for a pair of national TV appearances by the ECU basketball team.

CSTV will televise the Pirates' home game with Conference USA powerhouse Memphis on Jan. 11 (7 p.m.) and their league contest at Rice on Feb. 15 (8:05 p.m.). The games are a part of a multi-year multimedia agreement struck between C-USA and CSTV prior to the current football season.

ECU's Sept. 3 home opener with Duke and its Oct. 22 road game at Memphis were telecast by CSTV while the start-up 24-hour college sports network and Cox were still negotiating a distribution arrangement.

CSTV will be on digital channel 255 in the Sports and Information Tier, Cox said in its release.

“We are very excited to offer our digital customers quality sports programming such as CSTV,” stated Sammy Roberson, Director of Public and Government Affairs for Cox Communications North Carolina. “CSTV also has television and other media rights for Conference USA sports, which means you receive even more television coverage of ECU sporting events.”

Cox noted in its announcement that its customers can preview CSTV on digital channel 255 starting Dec. 1.
