NEW ORLEANS — East Carolina dropped its first American Athletic Conference series of the season with a 10-5 loss at Tulane on Sunday.
The Pirates (24-17, 8-4 AAC) took a 1-0 lead when Jake Agnos homered on the second pitch of the game.
The Green Wave (26-14-1, 8-4) went ahead to stay on a 2-run homer by Luis Aviles in the bottom of the first.
Brady Hebert homered for the hosts in the third.
Tulane scored in each of the first seven innings. Ethan Groff had a solo shot for the Wave in the fourth and Hebert had a 2-run blast in the seventh.
The Pirates got solo homers from Cam Clonch in the seventh and Carter Cunningham in the eighth.
Starter Jake Hunter (1-2) took the loss as six ECU pitchers yielded 13 hits. All 10 Tulane runs were earned.
The outcome knotted the two teams in a tie for the league lead with Central Florida (24-16, 8-4) with less than a month remaining in the regular season.
The Pirates visit N.C. State (25-13) on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
