GREENVILLE — East Carolina extended its winning streak to five games with an 8-2 victory over visiting UNC-Wilmington on Tuesday night.
The Pirates scored two runs in the bottom of the first and led the rest of the way in improving to 23-15. The Seahawks fell to 21-14. ECU had taken a 3-1 win at UNCW on March 22.
Josh Moylan reached on a fielder’s choice that allowed Jake Agnos to score the first run of the game in the bottom of the first. The Pirates went up 2-0- when Moylan scored on a single up the middle by Cam Clonch.
ECU added two runs in the fourth as Ben Newton scored on a wild pitch and Clonch had a sacrifice fly.
An RBI triple by Moylan and a wild pitch that allowed Moylan to come home pushed the Pirates’ lead to 6-0 in the sixth.
Matt Suggs had a solo homer for the Seahawks in the seventh and Chris Thorburn had an RBI single as the visitors pulled within 6-2.
ECU got a 2-run single from Newton in the bottom of the seventh to close the scoring.
C.J. Mayhue (3-1) started and went three innings for the win. He allowed one hit and one walk with four strikeouts.
Garrett Saylor and Trey Yesavage had mound stints before Carter Spivey was credited with his third save. ECU pitchers combined for seven strikeouts
The Pirates resume American Athletic Conference play at Tulane on Friday at 3 p.m.
