ORLANDO — Jake Kuchmaner and Danny Beal combined for a 3-hit shutout as East Carolina took its American Athletic Conference series at Central Florida with a 10-0 win on Friday night.
Kuchmaner, a senior left-hander, went five and one-third innings before summoning the trainer and leaving the game with what appeared to be an issue with his pitching arm.
Kuchmaner (4-2) allowed two hits and one walk while striking out four.
Beal yielded one hit while fanning five to pick up his first save.
The Pirates (21-15, 6-2 AAC) scored four runs in the fourth after a leadoff walk to Lane Hoover. Cam Clonch followed a double by Josh Moylan with a 2-run single. Clonch scored on a ground out by Jacob Starling.
ECU’s last run in the fourth was unearned on a grounder to short by Bryson Worrell.
A 2-run homer by Worrell in the ninth closed the scoring.
Hoover went 3-for-4 with two runs and two RBIs. Jacob Jenkins-Cowart had two hits and scored twice.
‘William Saxton (3-2) was charged with the loss for UCF (21-14, 5-3).
The Pirates seek their first AAC sweep of the season on Saturday at 2 p.m.
