NEW ORLEANS — Host Tulane took a 10-0 lead in the first four innings and went on to an 11-5 American Athletic Conference win over East Carolina on Friday.
The Pirates’ 5-game winning streak was halted as ECU slipped to 23-16 overall and 7-3 in the AAC going into the second contest in the 3-game series with Tulane (25-13-1, 7-3) on Saturday at 3 p.m. when the league lead will be on the line.
Trevor Minder put the hosts ahead to stay with a sacrifice fly in the second. Jackson Linn had a 2-run homer for Tulane in a 3-run third.
Minder had a 2-run homer in a 6-run fourth.
The Pirates scored all of their runs in the last three innings beginning with a solo homer by Carter Cunningham in the seventh. Zach Agnos had a 2-run homer in the eighth. Bryson Worrell had a solo blast in the ninth.
Ryder Giles (4-1) absorbed his first loss of the season as ECU used nine pitchers.
Dylan Carmouche (5-1) started and went seven innings for the win.
Agnos and Worrell each had two hits and two RBIs to lead the Pirates at the plate.
