MOUNT PLEASANT, SC — East Carolina topped College of Charleston, 8-5, in the completion of a suspended game before the Cougars evened the 3-game series with a 4-3 win in the regularly-scheduled contest on Saturday.
The deciding matchup is set for Sunday at 1 p.m.
The Cougars (11-8) went ahead to stay in the second game on a 3-run homer by Preston Hall in the bottom of the first off Josh Grosz (2-2).
Cam Clonch got ECU (10-9) within 4-2 in the fourth with a 2-run homer to right center. Clonch was 3-for-4 for the game.
The Pirates got an unearned run in the ninth when Bryson Worrell reached on an error and Clonch came home. The Pirates left the bases loaded on a game-ending fly out.
In the suspended game, play resumed with ECU leading 6-2 with runners at first and third with one out in the bottom of the seventh. The hosts closed within 6-5 in the seventh on a 3-run homer by Trotter Harlan.
The Pirates extended their lead with an RBI single by Clonch and a sacrifice fly by Carter Cunningham in the ninth.
Clonch finished 4-for-5 in the first game and Alec Makarewicz was 3-for-5. Jacob Jenkins-Cowart and Makarewicz had home runs in the fifth inning on Friday.
Starter Jake Kuchmaner (2-1) went five innings for the win and Carter Spivey pitched the final two and one-third innings for his first save.
