NORFOLK — Old Dominion took a 9-8 win over visiting East Carolina with a bases-loaded walk on a full count pitch with two out in the bottom of the 10th inning on Tuesday.

The No. 21 Monarchs (14-1) came back from a 7-3 deficit to lead 8-7 before ECU (9-8) evened the score on an RBI single by Lane Hoover in the sixth.

The Pirates took a 2-0 lead in the first on RBI singles by Alec Makarewicz and Carter Cunningham.

Makarewicz, Zach Agnos and Carter Cunningham drove in runs in ECU’s 4-run third, which also included an unearned run.

Jacob Jenkins-Cowart had a sacrifice fly for the Pirates in the fourth to bring in Bryson Worrell.

Getting two hits each for ECU were Worrell, Makarewicz, Agnos, Cunningham and Cam Clonch. Worrell had a pair of doubles.

ODU hit five home runs, including two by Carter Trice. Also clouting homers for the hosts were Andy Garriola, Brock Gagliardi and Tommy Bell.

Brad Dobzanski (2-0) was credited with the win and Danny Beal (2-1) was charged with the loss.

The Pirates start a 3-game series at College of Charleston (10-7) on Friday at 4 p.m. The Cougars defeated No. 2 Texas, 8-4. on Tuesday.
