BLACKSBURG, VA — Host Virginia Tech scored three runs in the third inning and led the rest of the way in a 7-2 win over East Carolina on Tuesday.
The Pirates tallied twice in the sixth before falling to 6-6.
Tanner Schobel, Eduardo Malinowski and Jack Hurley had RBI singles in the third for the Hokies (10-1).
Hurley had another run-scoring single in the fifth as Virginia Tech extended its advantage to 4-0.
Bryson Worrell had a two-out bunt single for ECU in the sixth. Lane Hoover followed with a double down the left field line. Jacob Jenkins-Cowart had a 2-run single to get the Pirates within 4-2.
Starter Nick Logusch (0-2) was charged with the loss as a 5-game winning streak was stopped.
ECU visits Radford (5-7) Wednesday for a 4 p.m. start, weather permitting.
