GREENVILLE — Ludgy Debaut and Dave Kasanganay played significant roles in their last games in Williams Arena at Minges Coliseum as East Carolina took an 83-68 win on Senior Night over Tulane on Wednesday.
Debaut and Kasanganay both started.
“The last 48 hours we had really talked about doing this for Ludgy and Dave,” said Pirates coach Mike Schwartz on the ECU radio network. “The emphasis coming off the Houston game (76-57 home loss on Saturday), we’ve got to get back to rebounding.”
The Pirates had a 46-39 advantage on the boards before a crowd of 3,817 and an audience on ESPNU. Kasanganay, a transfer from Navy, had three points, five rebounds, an assist and two steals in 19 minutes. Debaut totaled three points, three rebounds, two blocked shots and a steal in 20 minutes before fouling out.
ECU took control early in the American Athletic Conference contest. The Green Wave (17-10, 10-6 AAC) led 2-0 on a driving layup by Jaylen Forbes but the Pirates tied it on a dunk by Debaut.
ECU (15-14, 6-10) went ahead to stay at 4-2 on a jumper by Kasanganay with 17:40 left in the first half.
The Pirates led 39-31 at the half and had their biggest lead at 83-61 with 3:40 to go.
Brandon Johnson had 19 points, 12 rebounds, three assists and two steals for the hosts. Jaden Walker had 18 points, 11 rebounds and five assists. R.J. Felton had 15 points and three assists.
Quentin Deboundje scored 10. Ezra Ausar added eight points. Benjamin Bayela tallied seven.
The Wave got 23 points from Forbes. Jalen Cook had 12 points and Tylan Pope netted 11.
ECU plays at Tulane on Friday at 7 p.m. (ESPN+) in a game rescheduled from Feb. 11, due to the passing of radio play-by-play voice Jeff Charles.
The Pirates close out the regular season on Sunday at 2 p.m. at Central Florida.
