GREENVILLE — East Carolina delivered an impressive offensive performance to complete a season-opening 3-game sweep of George Washington with a 23-5 victory on Sunday at Clark-LeClair Stadium.
ECU had 20 hits including home runs from Justin Wilcoxen, Alec Makarewicz, Cam Clonch and Ryley Johnson.
The Pirates took the lead on a 2-run double by Jacob Starling in the bottom of the first and were on top the rest of the way.
Wilcoxen had a 3-run homer in a 5-run fifth inning.
Wilcoxen had an RBI double, Starling had a run-scoring triple and Makarewicz launched a solo shot to right in a 7-run sixth.
Clonch and Johnson each had 2-run homers as the Pirates scored six runs in the eighth.
Wilcoxen was 3-for-4 with four RBIs and four runs. Starling went 3-for-4 with three RBIs and two runs. Clonch was 2-for-2 with three RBIs.
Danny Beal got the win in relief of Josh Grosz, who started and went four innings. Beal allowed one hit and no runs in two innings.
The Pirates play at Campbell (2-1) on Tuesday at 5 p.m.
