STATESBORO, GA — East Carolina bounced back from its first loss of the season to take the series at Georgia Southern with a 9-2 win on Sunday.
ECU (6-1) never trailed after a solo homer to left center by Connor Norby in the top of the first inning.
A 2-run homer by Zach Agnos in the fourth gave the Pirates a 3-0 lead.
Josh Moylan drove in Norby with a double in the fifth, Ryder Giles had an RBI single in the sixth and Agnos pushed the lead to 6-0 with a run-scoring double in the eighth.
Seth Caddell launched a 3-run homer to left center in the ninth.
The Eagles (2-5) avoided a shutout with a 2-run double by pinch hitter Sam Blancato in the ninth.
Freshman left-hander A.J. Wilson came in with two out in the ninth and struck out the final batter.
Freshman lefty Carson Whisenhunt (1-0) started and went six and one-third innings with 11 strikeouts and one walk. He allowed four hits.
ECU had an 11-7 edge in hits. Norby went 3-for-4. Caddell and Agnos each had two hits and three RBIs.
The Pirates host Old Dominion on Wednesday at 4 p.m.
