The Kidd on Gilbert petitions fans to stay the course

My wife and I have been in the Pirate Club for 37 consecutive years. I don't know how long we've been buying season tix but it is probably around that many years. We just upped our Pirate Club giving 10%. The programs go up and down over the years. But one constant remains. ECU is my alma mater. My wifes' alma mater. My son and daughters' alma mater. Coach Houston will right the ship, Coach Dooley will eventually finally give ECU a presence in Bball, and Coach Godwin will win us our second baseball national title. It is a mind game that Vince Lombardi said best. Winning is a habit and so is losing. I think these three guys are the ones that can get it done breaking bad habits and instill in these young men that they should win at whatever they do ALL the time. I am optimistic!

We will have arrived when the Pirate Club raises twice the amount raised by student athletic fees. Cannot expect the students to carry the load.

George on Gilbert petitions fans to stay the course

Don't understand the fair weather fans. I've been a PC member since 1967 and have not dropped out through the touch years. I was a season ticket holder for 40 years but can no longer travel 535 miles to and from the games. But, I give to the PC and will as long as I'm physically able to write the checks..

Adrian on Pirates turn the page to next season

I admire what Coach accomplished with what he had to work with when he threw his hat in the ring. Some issues I see that need to be address...my philosophy is like Vince Lombardi liked to say "blocking and tackling" integral part of the game. These inferences are my points of view: 1. We missed 30% + of our attempted tackles this year 2. Hand offs in the backfield were not crisp/and smooth for the running back to have a full head of steam when he hits the LOS 3. I like Holton but he needs a lot of work to be a QB in the AAC 4. Our Defense has allowed WAY TO MANY POINTS... 5. I think it was the 3rd game before season end...Coach H on 4th and 1 should have run a sweet to get the first down and we would have won 6. We need to be doing MORE BLITZES on the opponents QB, giving them way to much time in the pocket to find receivers. What all this amounts to is WE HAVE A LOT OF WORK TO DO FOR NEXT SEASON TO BE ABLE TO COMPETE IN THE AAC

Dwight J Flanagan on Houston’s rebuilding job off to modest start

Well done Brett . Balanced and fair. Lot of work and long hours ahead for everyone associated with this football program. Thank goodness some of our fans do not play as they would bail out on their coaches and teammates and would never show up for the next game on the schedule. Years ago when Coach Randle got the program moving the question was asked of a former player as to what happened ? The response was "attitude". Our attitude is the one thing we as fans can contribute to keep turning this football program in the correct direction. We do not block and tackle thank goodness, but we have an attitude that can help the process. thanks Dwight

ECU VOL on Pirates look to build on late-season trend

I can remember when a four win season would have been a huge disappointment for ECU fans; After the past three season - four wins seems to be a blessing that things maybe have turned around. God willing, i hope things have turned around. With very bad knees and all, I can't wait for the next game. GGGOOO...Pirates!!!

In the words of the immortal Larry the Cable Guy, I don't care who you are, that's a good win.

Pirate4ever on UConn exit opens door for hot new rivalry

Southern Mississippi would be an old time rival and natural fit from a tradition standpoint. The two have a long and excellent football tradition going back at least to the 70's. So. Miss. has a strong football tradition and given a chance to play in a better league would probably soon have their team back at their old level of outstanding play. We already have to recruit against 4 in state ACC schools. We don't need another in state rival on equal conference footing with us.

C. E. Thomas on Pirates, 19-11, on the outside looking in

How can anyone with a .375 (6-10) conference record complain about not being in the tournament?

...though AS being added would likely make ECU's recruiting job that much more difficult.

Trying to manufacture rivalries generally doesn't work. Boise State, Army and App State would all enhance the conference.

Marshall : natural rivalry / history with ECU / location / successful football / no threat to ECU in recruiting unlike App St / ODU / Charlotte Marshall

Gene Stallings on UConn exit opens door for hot new rivalry

I agree that we should play App at least every other year. I think that the conference needs to pick a program that will boost the power of the conference with a known National name and history.
