↑ WIDE RECEIVER ↑
INSIDE RECEIVERS
- Dwayne Harris (SR): Already on preseason
All-America watch lists and NFL draft radar screens, Harris is one of
the biggest playmakers in all of college football. In an offense that
certainly will be geared to find Harris and get him the football, the
all-Conference USA standout wide receiver should have a record-breaking season. He
has posted more than 1,000 all-purpose yards each of his first three
seasons and was just a few yards shy in 2009 of a 1,000-yard receiving
year. Harris is top of the C-USA food chart and will bring tons of
attention to the East Carolina program this season. Look for the
highly-competitive Harris to go out with a roar in his senior season.
- Kevin Gidrey (SR): Gidrey finds himself in
the unenviable situation of having to essentially start over as he saw
his two primary positions disappear in the new offense. A solid talent at
fullback and tight end, Gidrey now finds himself as an inside receiver
in the Big H set up. He has good hands and great blocking talent and is
very recognizable within the program, so expect that Gidrey will find
ways to make an impact in his final campaign.
- Michael Bowman (RS-JR): Bowman made a name
for himself in 2009 as a dynamic kick returner and will continue to
contribute to that role in 2010, but this year, he will also look to be
a big factor in the receiving game. Though small in stature, he plays
big and had an outstanding spring as somewhat of a Harris-lite version.
He is fearless, shifty and has a knack for finding yards in the open
field. Look for Bowman to have a coming out party in 2010 in the wide
open Pirate offense.
- Jeremy Davis (SO): A surprising spring for
the sophomore walk-on from Warren County found him on the depth chart at
No. 2 behind Bowman at one of the inside receiver slots. Davis will
need another good camp in the fall to prove that he belongs.
- Reese Wiggins (RS-FR): A good spring landed
Wiggins behind Harris at one of the inside receiver positions and he has
the tools to hold on to that slot. A talented receiver with very good
speed and hands, Wiggins has the potential to be a very good receiver
for the Pirates in this, his first campaign.
- Justin Jones (RS-FR): The biggest story in
spring camp, literally and figuratively. When Jones came into the program,
he was a big tight end who had upside but not a lot of evidence that he
could play within his 6-8 frame. In the spring, the monster tight end
showed he could be a monster wide receiver. He is the top guy in the Big
Y packages and showed in the spring that he will be an absolute
nightmare for linebackers to cover in this offense. Look for Jones who
will only get better to be a big weapon in the fall.
- Zico Pasut (RS-FR): Converse to Jones,
Pasut came into the program as a well-known talent at tight end and
spent last season preparing for that role in 2010. However, with the
change of offense, Pasut had to break out his receivers mindset and did
well in the spring in the Big Y package. He was once Wornicks tight end
at Ardrey Kell, so perhaps there will be some benefit there should
Wornick hold on to the QB job. Pasut is a strong blocker as well and
will help in that capacity.
- Carter Gagnon (RS-FR): Gagnon is a local
product, having walked-on from Rose High. He had a
good spring and finds himself on the depth chart in the Big H package
behind Gidrey.
