WICHITA, KS — East Carolina experienced an offensive lull in its American Athletic Conference series at Wichita State that culminated with an 8-0 loss to the Shockers on Sunday.

ECU had a 9-game winning streak coming into the series but left with a 3-game losing streak.

The Pirates (29-11, 7-5 AAC) were limited to three runs in three games and fell from first place in the AAC, one game behind Wichita State (24-15, 8-4) and Houston (23-17, 8-4).

ECU right-hander Josh Grosz (4-1) held the hosts scoreless for four innings before he was charged with a 5-spot in the fifth.

Wichita State’s scoring started with a pair of bases-loaded walks before Payton Tolle had a 2-run double and David Herring had an RBI single.

Garrett Pennington, Tolle and Herring drove in runs as the Shockers extended their lead to 8-0 in the sixth.

Grant Adler (4-2) pitched a 3-hit shutout. Jacob Jenkins-Cowart, Carter Cunningham and Ryley Johnson had singles in the setback.

The Pirates visit N.C. State (25-14) on Tuesday at 6 p.m. (ESPNU).
