GREENVILLE — No. 9 East Carolina sent a crowd of 4,742 at Clark-LeClair Stadium home early on Saturday with a 10-0 win over Cincinnati.
The American Athletic Conference contest was halted with one out in the bottom of the seventh on the 10-run rule.
Carter Spivey (4-1) pitched a complete game for ECU (27-8, 6-2 AAC). The senior right-hander limited the Bearcats (15-21, 3-5) to four hits without a walk while striking out three.
The Pirates improved to 23-2 at home and extended their winning streak to seven with their eighth straight triumph in the all-time series with the Bearcats.
ECU goes for a sweep of the current series on Sunday at 1 p.m.
The Pirates went ahead to stay on a double in the bottom of the first by Carter Cunningham that brought in Lane Hoover, who had led off with a single.
Justin Wilcoxen hit a 2-run homer in the second off Chase Hopewell (1-4).
Joey Berini had a run-scoring double in the fourth.
A 3-run homer to right in the fifth by Josh Moylan pushed the lead to 7-0.
Hoover had an RBI single in the sixth and Jacob Starling homered in the seventh before the game ended on a single through the left side by Berini that brought in Dixon Williams.
Hoover and Berini each had three of ECU’s 14 hits.
The contest lasted exactly two hours.
