GREENVILLE — Cameron Bye of Wichita State struck out eight in eight innings as the Shockers took a 5-0 win over host East Carolina on Sunday to avoid a sweep in the 3-game American Athletic Conference series.

The visitors went ahead on a 2-run homer by Chuck Ingram in the third.

Sawyre Thornhill had a 2-run single in the sixth. Gage Williams had an RBI double in the ninth.

Bye (3-0) allowed three hits while walking three. Connor Holden got the last three outs, fanning two.

Zach Agnos had a double for the Pirates (18-15, 4-2 AAC). Lane Hoover and Ben Newton also had hits for ECU.

Wichita State improved to 13-18 overall and 2-4 in league play.

The Pirates visit Elon (15-16) on Tuesday at 6 p.m. ECU topped the Phoenix, 7-6, in Greenville on March 23. The Pirates lead the series, 55-32-1.
