DURHAM — East Carolina put up a season high run total in a 12-2 win over Duke at Durham Bulls Athletic Park on Tuesday.
Alec Makarevicz went 3-for-5 with a double, four RBIs and two runs as the Pirates improved to 3-5 going into the start of the Keith LeClair Classic against Indiana State on Friday at 4:30 p.m.
The Blue Devils were limited to two hits and committed four errors in falling to 4-4.
Nick Logusch, Ben Terwilliger, Josh Grosz (1-0) and Danny Beal combined for 15 strikeouts.
From a tie at 2, the Pirates went ahead to stay with a pair of runs in the sixth as Bryson Worrell had an RBI triple and scored on a single by Lane Hoover.
Worrell had three hits and scored three runs,
Zach Agnos and Makarewicz each had 2-run singles in a 6-run ninth inning for ECU.
Jacob Jenkins-Cowart and Agnos had two hits apiece.
Indiana State (5-2) will be the first opponent for the Pirates on Friday at 4:30 p.m. in the LeClair event. The field also includes Michigan and Maryland.
