HAWAII 59, ARMY 28
In a game in Honolulu which didn't kick off
until 11:05 ET, Army's winless campaign slid to 0-12 as the Black Knights
fell to Hawaii 59-28.
Army will have an opportunity to salve its
wounds and — to a significant extent — redeem itself when it closes its
season against arch-rival Navy in Philadelphia on Dec. 6.
MEMPHIS 21, CINCINNATI 16
Darron White ran for one touchdown and
threw for another as Memphis used a late defensive stand to beat Cincinnati
21-16 on Saturday. White finished with only 3 yards rushing, but his
touchdown with just under six minutes remaining gave the Tigers (8-3, 5-2
Conference USA) the winning score.
It was Memphis' fifth straight victory, and
marked the first time the Tigers have won eight games in a season since
1973. Cincinnati (5-6, 2-5) capitalized on several Memphis mistakes, but
lost for the third time in four games.
LOUISVILLE 66, HOUSTON 45
Lionel Gates rushed for a career-high 140
yards and four touchdowns and Louisville amassed a school and Conference USA
record 779 yards in a 66-45 victory over Houston on Saturday. Freshman
Michael Bush also ran 137 yards and two scores and Stefan LeFors threw for
334 yards as the Cardinals (8-3, 4-3 Conference USA) topped the previous
record of 769 yards they gained in a 63-45 victory over East Carolina in
1998.
Anthony Evans rushed for 129 yards and a
touchdown for Houston (6-5, 3-4), which allowed its highest point total
since a 66-10 loss to UCLA in 1997. Kevin Kolb went 21-of-27 for 224 yards
and two touchdowns for the Cougars
UAB 22, SOUTH FLORIDA 19
Nick Hayes kicked a 42-yard field goal with
nine seconds remaining to lift UAB past South Florida 22-19 Saturday night.
The victory sustained the faint bowl hopes
of UAB (5-6, 4-3 Conference USA). The loss ended any bowl plans for South
Florida (6-4, 4-3), which has two victories against Division I-AA opponents.
TULANE 28, EAST CAROLINA 18
J.P. Losman finished his college career
with a four-touchdown, 227-yard passing performance as he led Tulane (5-7,
3-5) to a 28-18 victory over East Carolina (1-10, 1-6) on Saturday.
For ECU, the outcome marked the first time
in the program's history the Pirates have lost 10 games in a season.
With the victory, Tulane finished one win
short of bowl eligibility and avoided losing to any teams with a losing
record. All seven teams that beat the Green Wave this season are bowl
eligible.

Army athletics begins multimillion-dollar construction
project
WEST POINT — Phase II of the Michie Stadium
Athletic Complex kicked off this month with the demolition of the old
football equipment room and weight room across the street from the steps of
Holleder Center. A brand new state-of-the-art annex known as Randall Hall
will be constructed in its place.
The $10 million project, another piece of the Academy's "Margin of
Excellence" facilities upgrade, is named for the late Robert D. Randall (USMA
'56), lead donor for the building. Randall Hall will serve as the new home
for Army's men's and women's basketball teams as well as providing four
skybox seating areas overlooking historic Michie Stadium. The
25,000-square-foot complex is scheduled to be completed in April 2005.
Randall Hall will consist of three floors and will include a catwalk over
Howze Place that connects to the upper concourse of Holleder Center near
Christl Arena. Four skybox booths with seating for approximately 21 will
overlook Michie Stadium and highlight the top floor. The men's and women's
basketball offices and conference rooms will also be located on the third
level. The "Class of '56" catwalk expanse will be adorned with memorial
displays dedicated to the Cold War.
The main entrance to Randall Hall will be located on the second floor. A
248-seat auditorium, capable of being divided into two rooms, occupies the
middle level. The main concourse connects with Kimsey Athletic Center near
the main lobby adjacent to the O'Meara, Malek, Dawkins Class of '59 Strength
Development Center.
The bottom floor will feature team rooms and locker rooms for both the men's
and women's basketball squads, including showers and locker areas.
Funding for Randall Hall was made possible through private donations.
