Memphis 37, Louisville 7
LOUISVILLE — Danny Wimprine threw a
touchdown pass and ran for another score while Memphis shut down
Louisville's potent offense in a 37-7 win on Saturday.
DeAngelo Williams rushed for 154 yards and
a touchdown as the Tigers (7-3, 3-2 Conference USA) won in Louisville for
the first time since 1983.
Memphis has won four straight games for the
first time since 1994 and reached seven victories for the first time since
1976.
The Cardinals (7-3, 3-3) came into the game
ranked fifth in the nation in total offense (482 yards per game). They
gained only 216 yards and 12 first downs - both season lows - and mustered
their lowest point total since October 2001.
Southern Miss 28, Tulane 14
HATTIESBURG — Dustin Almond put the game
away with a 39-yard touchdown pass to Alan Whitney off a faked field goal
with less than two minutes left and Southern Mississippi went on to defeat
Tulane 28-14 on Saturday.
The Golden Eagles (7-3, 6-0) have won four
straight and are a half-game behind first-place Texas Christian in
Conference USA, setting the stage for one of the biggest showdowns in the
league's history.
TCU, unbeaten and ninth-ranked, visits
Hattiesburg on Thursday night for a game that has BCS ramifications for the
Frogs and will decide the C-USA title.
J.P. Losman was 21-for-36 for 244 yards and
two touchdown for Tulane (4-7, 2-5), which has lost six of seven.
Houston 34, Army 14
WEST POINT — Looking to end a three-game
losing streak and secure a bowl bid, Houston couldn't have asked for a
better opponent.
Kevin Kolb passed for 301 yards and two
touchdowns in Houston's 34-14 victory over Army on Saturday, the Black
Knights' 13th straight loss.
Brandon Middleton had six catches for 129
yards and two touchdowns, and Anthony Evans added 140 yards and one TD
rushing for Houston (6-4, 3-3 Conference USA).
Army (0-11, 0-8) also has lost 13 straight
home games. It last recorded a victory here on Oct. 27, 2001, beating Tulane
42-35.
Texas Christian 43, Cincinnati 10
FORT WORTH — Texas Christian just keeps
prolonging the BCS debate. So far, the Horned Frogs have the perfect answer
for the critics and doubters who don't believe they deserve a chance to play
in one of the top four bowls: an unblemished record.
Kenny Boyd returned a blocked punt for a
touchdown, linebacker Marvin Patterson pounced on a fumble in the end zone
and the No. 10 Horned Frogs (10-0, 7-0 Conference USA) won their 12th
straight game. By beating Cincinnati (5-5, 2-4), TCU avenged one of its two
losses from last season.
Next up is Thursday night at Southern
Mississippi (7-3, 6-0). That game is for the outright C-USA title and
seemingly the last challenge to keeping the BCS dream alive for the Frogs,
who end the regular season Nov. 29 at winless SMU.

game, including key quotes...
Main cog in Cardinals' ground game out of action
LOUISVILLE — Louisville leading rusher Eric
Shelton is expected to miss two games because of a neck injury. Shelton
sprained his neck when he was hit during the Cardinals' 31-28 loss at Texas
Christian on Nov. 5.
He was to miss Saturday's game against
Memphis and will also be sidelined for the Nov. 22 game against Houston,
football sports information director Rocco Gasparro said.
Shelton has four 100-yard rushing games
this season, and the transfer from Florida State has rushed for 756 yards
and leads the team with 10 touchdowns.
North Texas locks in bowl bid versus C-USA foe
DENTON, TX — North Texas accepted its third
straight invitation to the New Orleans Bowl after clinching the Sun Belt
Conference title with a 58-14 win over Arkansas State.
The Mean Green (8-3, 6-0) will face a Conference USA team in the Dec. 16
game. North Texas beat Cincinnati 24-19 last year in New Orleans and lost to
Colorado State in 2001.
