Sunday TV Capsules for C-USA Teams
Louisville (0-0) at Kentucky (0-0), 6:30
p.m., ESPN2
Opening Line: Kentucky by 5.
Series Record: Kentucky leads, 10-5.
Last Meeting: 2002, Kentucky, 22-17.
What to Watch: Louisville has an array of targets for first-year QB Stefan
LeFors. TEs Ronnie Ghent and Richard Owens are dangerous, as is WR Joshua
Tinch, who also plays basketball for the Cardinals. Return man Broderick
Clark is a threat, too, as is his Kentucky counterpart, Derek Abney. LeFors
will face a new Kentucky defensive scheme - the Wildcats switched to a 3-4
in the offseason - and the DL appears much improved. Kentucky will also have
some new looks on offense. Bulky QB Jared Lorenzen could be joined on the
field by the more-athletic QB Shane Boyd. Boyd could line up at either WR or
RB, sometimes taking a direct snap. Lorenzen could split out wide or even
play a little TE. The Wildcats also have a bevy of inexperienced RBs in
Draak Davis, Arliss Beach and Alexis Bwenge. Draak is listed as the starter.
Bobby Petrino makes his coaching debut for Louisville. It's also the first
game at Kentucky for coach Rich Brooks. With two new coaches and their new
schemes, the game could once again come down to turnovers, as it frequently
does. (Kentucky forced three last season).
Streaks, Stats and Notes: At stake is the Governor's Cup. ... The Cardinals
averaged 32.7 points on the road last season. ... Louisville C Dan Koons has
started 20 games in a row. ... The 6-foot-4, 260-pound Lorenzen is a
candidate for the Johnny Unitas golden arm award. ... This is the 10th
consecutive year that Kentucky has opened against Louisville. The Cardinals
have won three of four.
Construction alters access to Nippert
Stadium
The Main Street and Varsity Village
construction projects on the University of Cincinnati campus will create
some adjustments in how spectators enter Nippert Stadium this year for the
Bearcats' home football games. The main entrance from the east side of the
stadium will be through the Fifth Third Arena at Shoemaker Center.
Spectators with tickets to seats on the east side of Nippert should proceed
to the Oscar Robertson Plaza. The concourse of the arena will serve as the
thoroughfare to Nippert Stadium.
For access from the west side of the
stadium, there is a pedestrian walkway through UC's temporary Main Street
facilities and around the renovated Tangeman Center. Limited access has been
created for ticket holders with seats in sections 119-127 to enter from
north of the stadium. A pedestrian corridor will be established adjacent to
the Engineering Research Center down to the northwest corner of the stadium.
The entrances on the south of the stadium can be accessed by the routes that
people are accustomed to.
Paths to Nippert will be well-marked with
signage. Additionally, UC will have ambassadors in golf carts to assist with
directions and provide rides to those who have trouble with the walk. Fans
are encouraged to allow a little extra time to make their way into the
stadium from the parking garages or Cattitude on the Commons. Utilizing
either the east or west access points from the parking garages to the north
may take 10-15 minutes.
Security will continue to be an emphasis.
Stadium rules and regulations prohibit fans from entering the stadium with
oversized bags, backpacks or coolers. Fans carrying purses or camera bags
are subject to having these items searched prior to entering the stadium.
Fans who have enjoyed the tradition of
coming onto the field after the games will not be permitted to enter the
playing field at the conclusion of the game until the UC Band has played the
alma mater, thus allowing the visiting team the opportunity to leave the
field. For Monday's opener, fans will be withheld from entering the field
until the conclusion of a post-game band show.
Nippert Stadium Entries:
• East: Entry throught Fifth Third Arena at
Shoemaker Center. Enter building from Oscar Robertson Plaza.
• West: Entry via a pedestrian walkway through UC’s temporary Main Street
facilities and around the renovated Tangeman Center.
• North: For fans holding tickets in Sections 119-127, a pedestrian cooridor
has been established adjacent to the Engineering Research Center to the
northwest corner of the stadium.
• South: Entrances unchanged.
Security Issues: Oversized bags, backpacks
and coolers are prohibited. Purses and camera bags are subject to search
prior to entry.
Post-Game: Entry to the playing field
provided only after the UC Band has played the alma mater. Entry for
Monday's opener will be withheld until after a post-game band show.
Miscellaneous: The UC Bookstore has moved
to the new Tangeman Center annex adjacent to the southwest corner of Nippert
Stadium.
