Wave sinks Pirates

Tulane squared away its
regular season accounts with East Carolina Wednesday night, halting the
Pirates' mini-winning streak at two games and extracting some payback
for the
Green Wave's Jan. 7 loss in Greenville.
Junior guard Kevin Sims
scored 18 points and senior center Robinson Louisme had 10 points and a
game-high 13 rebounds to help power Tulane past East Carolina 73-63 in a
Conference USA game in New Orleans.
Sophomore guard Kris
Richard added 14 points and junior forward Asim McQueen contributed 13
for the Green Wave (10-13, 4-6 C-USA).
Sophomore guard Brock
Young produced a game-high 21 points and freshman guard Chris Turner
came off the bench to score 11 for the Pirates (12-11, 4-6), who had no
other players in double figures.
Tulane led by 12 at the
half and maintained control the rest of the way to snap a three-game
skid.
The Wave's second half
margin was never less than 8 and at one point reached 16 on a Sims
lay-up with 11:25 remaining.
East Carolina will look to
be gaining some payback of its own when it meets Rice for the second time this season
Saturday night in Greenville (7
pm). The Pirates
lost to the Owls 76-70 in
Houston on on Jan. 31.
Rice (8-15, 3-6) will be coming into the
rematch off the momentum of an 88-72 rout of Southern Miss Wednesday
night.
