East Carolina got double-figure scoring from five players and chalked up a big scoring advantage at the free throw line in an 82-79 Conference USA win over Southern Miss Wednesday night in Greenville.

The win snapped a three-game skid for the Pirates (11-10, 3-5 C-USA) and ended East Carolina's five-game losing streak to the Golden Eagles (13-8, 3-4).

Sophomore guard Brock Young scored 17 points for the Pirates. Senior guards Sam Hinnant and James Legan had 14 apiece, sophomore forward Jamar Abrams added 12 and freshman forward Darrius Morrow contributed a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds.

East Carolina converted 24 of 29 free throws (82.8%), including 10 in a row in the game's final 41 seconds that negated a Southern Miss comeback attempt. The Golden Eagles had trailed at the half 41-31.

Southern Miss outshot the Pirates from the floor 49.2% (29-59) to 40.4% (23-57), but East Carolina's field goals included 12 three-pointers in 29 tries (41.4%).

Senior guard Courtney Beasley scored 23 points and pulled down 13 rebounds to lead the Golden Eagles. Senior guard Craig Craft also produced a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds.

Sophomore guard R.L Horton had 18 points and junior guard Jeremy Wise added 16 for Southern Miss.

The Pirates finish a two-game home stand with a conference game against Central Florida on Saturday (7 pm). The Knights (15-7, 5-3) suffered a 97-69 loss to Houston Wednesday night in Orlando.
