East Carolina shot a searing 63% from the field, including 62.5% from three-point range, to capture an 89-75 Conference USA victory over Central Florida Saturday night in Greenville.

Sophomore forward Jamar Abrams led the shooting clinic, nailing 5 of 6 shots from behind the three-point arc and 10 of 12 field goal attempts overall to help the Pirates (12-10, 4-5 C-USA) defeat the Golden Knights (15-8, 5-4) for the first time in 10 tries.

East Carolina constructed a 10-point halftime lead and answered every second half surge by Central Florida with a counter-surge of its own.

Abrams finished with a game-high 25 points, senior guard Sam Hinnant scored 18, senior guard James Legan had 13 and sophomore guard Jontae Sherrod and freshman guard Brock Young contributed 12 apiece as the Pirates placed five players in double figures for the second straight game.

Senior guard Jermaine Taylor matched his league-leading scoring average with 24 points, senior center Kenrick Zondervan had 19 and junior forward Tony Davis added 13 points and and a game-high 12 rebounds for Central Florida.

East Carolina was red-hot in all aspects of shooting accuracy, making 29 of 46 from the field, including 15 of 24 three-point tries, and converting 16 of 19 free throws (84.2%).

The Knights had far more shooting opportunities, thanks to dominating the rebounding battle 39-30 and committing only 6 turnovers to the Pirates' 13. But UCF made only 36.8% percent of its shots (28-76).

East Carolina will meet Tulane for the second time this season Wednesday night in New Orleans (8 pm). The Pirates edged the Green Wave 69-66 in Greenville on Jan. 7. Tulane (9-13,  3-6) will be coming into the rematch off an 89-86 overtime loss at Marshall Saturday night.
