GREENVILLE — No. 9 East Carolina dominated Charlotte on Friday night with a no-hitter for an 11-0 American Athletic Conference win in seven innings at Clark-LeClair Stadium.
It was the second no-hitter this week for the Pirates (26-7, 7-3 AAC). ECU did not allow a hit in a 12-0 triumph over visiting Elon on Tuesday night.
Trey Yesavage (7-1) was untouchable for six innings with three walks and 12 strikeouts. Jackson DiLorenzo faced the minimum in the seventh with a strikeout, ground out and a fly out.
“It shows how deep we are,” said Yesavage of the Pirates’ second mound gem in four nights. “It’s great for the staff. Great for our confidence.”
Five pitchers have contributed on the two no-hitters and run support was not an issue on either night.
Ryley Johnson had a 2-run homer in the second on Friday night to push ECU’s lead to 4-0. The Pirates put up five runs in the sixth with the help of a 2-run double from Dixon Williams.
ECU had 10 hits as Johnson, Justin Wilcoxen, Colby Wallace and Williams had two each. Johnson and Williams each had three RBIs. Bristol Carter had a pair of RBIs. Wallace had a triple.
The Pirates have won four in a row and 10 of their last 11 games.
ECU hosts Charlotte on Saturday at 4 p.m. in the second matchup of a 3-game series with the 49ers (15-19, 4-6 AAC).
