GREENVILLE — Jaden Winter, Chris Kahler and Parker Thomas combined for a no hitter over seven innings as No. 9 East Carolina overwhelmed Elon, 12-0, in a nonconference contest at Clark-LeClair Stadium on Tuesday night.
Winter (2-1) started and went four innings for the Pirates (24-7). Winter walked three and struck out five.
Kahler tossed two innings. walking one and fanning three. Thomas pitched the final frame with two fly outs to right and a ground out to third.
Bristol Carter hit a 3-run homer. Carter Cunningham and Ryan McCrystal blasted 2-run shots as ECU won for the eighth time in its last nine games going into a home game with Old Dominion (16-15) on Wednesday at 6 p.m.
“You got two games midweek this week,” said Pirates coach Cliff Godwin on the ECU radio network. “The bullpen is a little thin. No (Wyatt Lunsford-) Shenkman. No Jake Hunter in the middle of the week. Jaden went out there and gave us a quality start. We weren’t planning on him going four innings, but he did.
“We passed the ball to Chris Kahler and Chris looked like he was back like himself. Parker Thomas gets his first career outing and keeps the no-hitter intact. Super proud of the pitching staff.”
Elon (11-21) yielded nine hits and committed three errors before a crowd of 4,252.
The Pirates scored three unearned runs in the bottom of the first.
Justin Wilcoxen went 2-for-2 for ECU with a run and an RBI.
