ELON — East Carolina will take an 8-game winning streak into American Athletic Conference play after scoring early and often in a 10-1 triumph at Elon on Tuesday.
ECU pitchers Chris Kahler (1-0), Danny Beal, Erik Ritchie and Jackson Dilorenzo combined for a 3-hitter.
The Pirates improved to 15-4 after going ahead to stay with a 3-run first inning that included an RBI double by Justin Wilcoxen and a 2-run single by Ryan McCrystal.
Ryley Johnson was hit by a pitch in the second and later scored on a ground out by Jacob Jenkins-Cowart for a 4-0 lead.
The Phoenix (9-11) got a solo homer from Vince Fattore in the fifth.
ECU added four runs in the sixth as Bristol Carter came home on bases-loaded walk to Dixon Williams, Luke Nowak scored a wild pitch, Carter Cunningham had an RBI single, and a run came in as Elon turned a double play that brought Williams in.
The Pirates scored two runs in the ninth on a fielder’s choice by Joey Berini and a double down the left field line by Williams.
Cunningham and Wilcoxen had two hits each as ECU had a 10-3 lead over the hosts.
The Pirates travel to Texas-San Antonio to begin the AAC schedule on Friday at 7 p.m.
