LYNCHBURG, VA — East Carolina overcame a 3-0 deficit after five innings to defeat host Liberty, 5-3, on Saturday night and win the nonconference series.
ECU (9-4) tied the score with three runs in the sixth as Jacob Jenkins-Cowart and Bristol Carter had RBI singles before Jenkins-Cowart came home with the tying run on a balk.
The Pirates took the lead in the seventh when Joey Berini scored on a throwing error.
Ryan McCrystal pushed the lead to 5-3 with a solo homer to right in the ninth.
Danny Beal (1-1) got the win in relief of Zach Root, who started and struck out seven in five innings. Wyatt Lunsford-Shenkman earned his first save.
Jenkins-Cowart and McCrystal each went 2-for-4.
ECU goes for a sweep of the Flames (5-9) in Sunday’s matchup, which is scheduled for a 1 p.m. start.
