HOUSTON — A 3-run homer by Alex Lopez in the bottom of the seventh inning sent host Houston to a 6-4 American Athletic Conference win over No. 8 East Carolina in the deciding game of the series Sunday.
The Pirates (20-8, 1-2 AAC) had taken a 4-3 lead on a 2-run double by Luke Nowak in the top of the seventh.
The Cougars (14-14, 2-1) used a solo homer by Brandion Burckel in the third and a 2-run shot to left by Zach Arnold in the fifth for a 3-0 lead.
ECU scored twice in the sixth on a solo homer by Jacob Starling and an RBI single by Joey Berini that brought in Nowak.
Wyatt Lunsford-Shenkman (2-2) took the loss.
Owen Woodward (2-0) got the win and Justin Murray picked up his third save.
Berini had two of the Pirates’ six hits.
ECU hosts N.C. State (20-8) on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. (ESPNU).
