FAYETTEVILLE — No. 10 East Carolina got the potential tying run into scoring position in the top of the ninth inning on Wednesday night at Segra Stadium before No. 18 Campbell held on for a 2-1 win.
Luke Nowak reached on an error with one out in the final frame and stole second.
Aaron Rund got his second save with a fly out and a strikeout.
The Pirates (16-5) left 11 runners on base.
Campbell (16-3) took a 1-0 lead in the first inning after a leadoff single by Jarrod Belbin. A double by Drake Pierson moved Belbin to third and he scored on a ground out to second by Tyler Halstead.
Trenton Harris hit a home run to left for the Camels in the third for a 2-0 lead.
ECU got a double from Jacob Jenkins-Cowart to start the eighth and he came home on a 2-out single by Ryan McCrystal to cut the CU lead to 2-1.
Campbell is 2-0 against the Pirates this season with a 6-5 win in 10 innings in Buies Creek on Feb. 21. The teams meet again in Greenville on May 16.
Starter Hunter Loyd (2-1) started and went five scoreless innings for the win. He allowed three hits and walked four while striking out five. Rund pitched the last four innings.

Zach Root (2-1) started and went three innings for ECU with four strikeouts. Garrett Saylor had seven whiffs in three and one-third innings. Wyatt Lunsford-Shenkman fanned a pair in the final inning and two-thirds.
The Pirates had a 6-5 lead in hits as Jenkins-Cowart was 2-for-3.
ECU starts a 3-game series at home against George Mason (11-9) on Friday at 6 p.m.
