PHILADELPHIA — Damian Dunn hit a 3-pointer at the buzzer to give host Temple a 78-75 American Athletic Conference win over East Carolina on Saturday.

Pirates coach Joe Dooley said Tremont Robinson-White defended the final shot correctly as Dunn worked off a screen.

“We hedged and Tremont got back out,” Dooley said. “Damian rose up and made the shot.”

Dunn had 33 points for the Owls, who improved to 9-6 overall and 2-2 in the AAC.

After falling behind, 7-0, ECU surged to its biggest lead at 34-23 with 3:15 left in the first half.

Robinson-White scored, drew a foul and made the free throw with 15 seconds to play to tie the score at 75.

Alanzo Frink missed the Pirates’ 88-80 overtime win at home over Tulane on Wednesday night but the transfer came back to lead ECU’s scoring on Saturday with 15 points in 18 minutes. Robinson-White had 14 points. Vance Jackson had 12 points and six rebounds,

Tristen Newton finished with eight points, six rebounds and nine assists as the Pirates slipped to 10-4 overall and 1-1 in the AAC. Brandon Suggs and J.J. Miles each had eight points in the setback, Brandon Johnson scored six and R.J. Felton added four points.

Nick Jourdain had 16 points for Temple before fouling out on ECU’s final field goal by Robinson-White. Jeremiah Williams had 10 points for the Owls. Jahlil White had nine points and six rebounds in the win.

The Pirates play at Cincinnati on Wednesday at 7 p.m. The Bearcats (11-4, 1-1) visit Memphis (8-5, 2-1) on Sunday at 3:30 p.m.
