Basketball NewsCOVID strikes again

December 30, 2021 By Bonesville Staff Leave a Comment

East Carolina’s home basketball game with Wichita State that was scheduled for Wednesday night has been postponed due to COVID developments, the ECU athletic department announced several hours before the game.

Unlike the recent cancellation of the Military Bowl in Annapolis, MD, that matched ECU’s football team against Boston College, the postponement of the hoops contest was prompted by test results within the ECU program. The bowl game was called off because of attrition of players in the BC program due to COVID, injuries, opt-outs and transfers.

No timeline was provided in ECU’s release for when the Pirates’ hoops schedule would resume. Any new information concerning future games and rescheduled contests will be announced when it becomes available, the brief announcement indicated.

The next game on ECU’s published schedule is a road contest at South Florida on New Year’s day (12 p.m., ESPN+).
