GREENVILLE — Home runs by Alec Makarewicz and Connor Norby accounted for East Carolina’s scoring in a 3-1 win over Charlotte on Saturday at Clark-LeClair Stadium.
Carson Whisenhunt (3-0) pitched seven scoreless innings and C.J. Mayhue picked up his third save as No. 14 ECU improved to 12-2.
Makarewicz homered to right field in the sixth to give the Pirates a 1-0 lead and a blast from Norby cleared the fence in right center with Ryder Giles aboard in the seventh.
Following a 7-4 triumph on Friday night, the Pirates took their fourth weekend series of the season despite a homer by Aaron McKeithan of the 49ers (8-5) in the ninth.
Norby went 3-for-4 in extending his hitting streak over two seasons to 21 games. Josh Moylan was 2-for-3 as ECU outhit Charlotte, 8-5.
Whisenhunt allowed three hits and walked two while striking out nine.
Mayhue yielded two hits and struck out two in two innings.
The Pirates go for a series sweep on Sunday at 1 p.m. (ESPN+).
