DURHAM — Connor Norby hit a 3-run homer in the sixth inning to break a tie score at 5 and East Carolina went on to an 11-5 win over Duke at Durham Bulls Athletic Park on Tuesday.
The Pirates, who moved from No. 17 to No. 14 in this week’s Division I Baseball rankings, improved to 10-2 with their second win this season over the Blue Devils (6-6), who lost, 6-1, in Greenville on Feb. 23.
Norby went 2-for-6 with four RBIs and extended his hitting streak to 19 games over the last two seasons as ECU outhit their hosts, 14-9.
It was a staff day for Pirate pitching as seven hurlers saw action with C.J. Mayhue (1-1) getting the win. He allowed one hit in three innings with one walk and four strikeouts.
Seth Caddell hit a solo shot to right center in the third for his team-leading sixth homer of the season and a 5-3 ECU lead.
Getting two hits each for the Pirates were Caddell, Ryder Giles, Ben Newton, Norby and Bryson Worrell.
Ryley Johnson had a 2-run double for ECU with two out in the eighth to complete the scoring.
The Pirates return home to start a 3-game series with Charlotte on Friday at 6:30 p.m. The 49ers are 8-3 after a 9-0 win at home on Tuesday over No. 15 Tennessee.
