BIRMINGHAM — The preliminaries are finally over. It's really time to go bowling in Birmingham.

Papajohns.com Bowl Eve was another busy day for the East Carolina football team.

Friday morning, the Pirate captains joined Coach Skip Holtz, the Pirate cheerleaders and Pee Dee on a visit to the local Children's Hospital. Pirate senior Eric Graham was especially excited about the visit.

"I've been around children my entire life," said Graham. "That's what I'm studying at East Carolina, so to put a smile on a little kid's face is really something. It's a very heartwarming experience."

The entire squad took part in the official "KickOff Luncheon" today. Archie Manning was the guest speaker. Manning, of course, has a couple of sons who excel with the pigskin in the pros.

Coach Holtz had his final meeting with the media today. He says his Pirates are ready.

"They've worked very hard and I think they'll bring that same mentality to the game tomorrow," Holtz said. "We'll certainly play hard, and I think we'll play well."
