BIRMINGHAM — East Carolina spent another busy day on Thursday getting ready for Saturday's PapaJohns.com Bowl.

The Pirates visited the Civil Rights Institute in the morning. The museum was a tremendous learning experience for the squad. Several of the ECU players spent several minutes reading about the different displays.

"I thought it was something special," said senior Eric Graham. "Some of the displays really pulled at your feelings, to see how people used to act."

The Pirates then worked out for just over an hour at Legion Field. The spirited session concluded with the first annual coaches game, which Pirate coach Skip Holtz called a new bowl tradition.

Thursday night featured the BBQ and Bowling Challenge. East Carolina, led by coaches Junior Smith and Donnie Kirkpatrick, came out on top.

Coach Holtz allegedly bowled a 179.

The Pirate captains will visit a children's hospital Friday morning. The Kickoff Luncheon is set for Friday afternoon.
