Jerry on Pirates finish off Wake, prolong season

Great job by the Pirates, hanging tough when it seemed they couldn’t get anybody out, and answering the Deacons with a walk-off rally. Somebody needs to ask Coach Godwin, why pull Yesavage after one out? Did Trey ask to be pulled? Why not give him another batter, and if he handles the situation, let him finish the inning. The Coach’s formula has been successful more often than not, but this seemed like a huge unforced error.

Danny Whitford on 2025 OTs on ECU’s radar

Hey, David: We typically feature regular basketball and football recruiting stories and year by year recruit thumbnails for both sports. Our cloud service caused us to experience a recent outage of the site. We are in the process of restoring and in some cases reconstructing the recruiting features. Sammy Batten's football recruiting stories will continue to be published while that process in underway. — Danny Whitford, Editor

My first ALS symptom occurred in 2016, but was diagnosed in 2018. I had severe symptoms ranging from shortness of breath, balance problems, couldn't walk without a walker or a power chair, i had difficulty swallowing and fatigue. I was given medications which helped but only for a short burst of time, then I decided to try alternative measures and began on ALS Formula treatment from Aknni herbs centre, It has made a tremendous difference for me (Visit ww w. aknniherbscentre.c om). I had improved walking balance, increased appetite, muscle strength, improved eyesight and others.

Jerry on Pirate power not enough in LeClair Classic finale

A misplayed fly ball to centerfield in the second inning signaled the beginning of a very frustrating day. Although ruled a hit, the misplay allowed SLU to strike first. However, that would be the least of the Pirate problems, as the bullpen failed once again to support an ECU power surge at the plate. The season is still young, but there has been a noticeable lack of control exhibited by Pirate relievers, by and large. SLU made Pirate pitchers earn each out, while battling at every at bat. Hopefully, some bullpen arms will settle down and become steady performers. You aren’t going to have much success when your pitching is routinely giving away free passes to first base.

Katherine Bhana on LeClair’s legend lives on

ALS is a cruel disease. My mum is 83 and had great difficulty speaking and swallowing much of anything. Food was getting trapped in her throat and blocking her air way was happening more often. she battled for each breath. The riluzole did very little to help her. The medical team did even less. Her decline was rapid and devastating. The psychological support from the medical centre was non-existent and if it were not for the sensitive care and attention of our primary physician, there she would have died. There has been little if any progress in finding a cure or reliable treatment. Acupuncture eased her anxiety a bit. this year our primary physician started her on Natural Herbs Centre ALS/MND Ayurvedic treatment, 6 months into treatment she improved dramatically. It has been a complete turnaround with her speech, she no longer needs the feeding tube to feed, the treatment is a miracle. She recovered significantly!

Jerry on Throng cheers walk off, Pirates take UNC series

Great back-and-forth contest, which showed both strength and weakness by both teams. Both teams can manufacture runs, and both teams are in serious need of a more mature bull pen. Too bad this series had to be played early in the year. I’m betting both teams will be better off 30-45 days from now - and all these guys aren’t even the “cream” of the state teams. Baseball is alive and well in NC, so far, this year.

Jerry on Signing day relegated to minimal fanfare

I’m betting Signing Day at many schools looked a lot like ECU’s did - a shamble of its former glory. What a damning testimony against the NCAA. How many of the schools currently labeled as “FBS” can afford to invest recruitment dollars and time on high school recruits, going forward. A recently run Dr Pepper commercial pokes some fun at the chaos created by the transfer portal. Sadly, it’s almost as truthful as it is tongue-and-cheek.

I'm in favor of relegation in college football. The brick and mortar arms race is even sillier than I originally thought.

Irish Spectre on NCAA proposal not geared for ECU

We really should hope that happens, because the AAC has become significantly degraded on a net basis. All four of the universities that left were really the cornerstones of the conference in its prior form. Except arguably for UTSA (given its aggressive, resourced ambition) and Rice and Army (given their tradition and academic cred), all of the incoming programs were a downgrade to the AAC. Absolutely the "have nots" of a collapsed ACC represent a collection of programs that are superior to the AAC, but unless Coach Houston can truly turn ECU around, why would they be interested in ECU as a member of a new conference? There are other programs in the region today (e.g., App State and Liberty) that could be looking to move up, and would probably be more attractive than ECU, and even more candidate programs outside of the region. Coach gets paid very well; let's hope the results on the field begin to be commensurate.

Jerry on NCAA proposal not geared for ECU

The toothpaste ain’t going back into the tube. The NCAA isn’t interested in fixing anything, because they don’t know how. Survival is their mission. The creation of two, maybe three Super Conferences for football seems likely. Those conferences won’t need “leadership” from the NCAA, but you can bet the NCAA will fight like hell to keep hold of the reins. As for the “others”, the first question is, do they have any affiliation with the the Biggies - in any sport. Whatever happens, I hope this destroys the leadership of the NCAA. If nothing changes there, then the also-rans should run away from the NCAA, form their own leadership cadre, and move forward. Daunting, yes it is - but doable and necessary.
