The Greenville bracket of the NCAA tournament was announced with the field of 64 on Monday.
Host East Carolina (43-15) is the top regional seed and the No. 16 national seed.
The Pirates will take on fourth-seeded Evansville (35-20) in the opening game of the double-elimination event on Friday at 1 p.m. (ESPN+).
Wake Forest (38-20), the No. 2 regional seed, plays third-seeded Virginia Commonwealth (37-21) on Friday at 6 p.m. (ESPN+).
Play continues Saturday with the losers from Friday playing an elimination game. The Friday winners play with the winner of that matchup advancing to the championship on Sunday. That team would have to lose twice to be denied a spot in the Super Regional against the winner of the Knoxville regional.
Teams in the Knoxville regional include top-seeded Tennessee (50-11), also the No. 1 national seed, No. 4 Northern Kentucky (35-22), second-seeded Southern Miss (41-18) and third-seeded Indiana (32-24-1).
