Tulane wins series finale

GREENVILLE — A three-run third inning
put Tulane ahead to stay and the Green Wave went on to an 8-6 American
Athletic Conference win over East Carolina at Clark-LeClair Stadium on
Saturday.
With the score tied at 1, Tulane's
Tyler Wilson singled with two out in the top of the third and one runner
aboard by virtue of an error. Jake Rogers followed with an RBI single
for a 2-1 Green Wave lead. A wild pitch allowed Wilson to score. Jake
Willsey's RBI single gave the visitors a 4-1 lead.
John Gandolfo and Rogers each had
three hits for Tulane (20-12, 2-4). Hunter Williams and Richard Carthon
each had two RBIs for the Green Wave.
Kirk Morgan had two hits and two RBIs
to lead ECU (19-13, 3-3) at the plate.
Also getting two hits each for the
Pirates were Charlie Yorgen, Travis Watkins and Luke Lowery.
Lowery had an RBI double in the
bottom of the ninth before Eric Tyler grounded into a game-ending double
play with the bases loaded.
ECU had already taken the series with
a 3-0 win on Thursday night and
an 11-4 triumph on Friday night.
David Lucroy (2-2) started and went
two and two-thirds innings on the mound as the Pirates used six
pitchers.
Each team had five earned runs. Alex
Massey (2-2) got the win for Tulane. Patrick Duester faced one batter
for his second save of the season.
ECU visits Campbell (24-8) for a 6
p.m. game Tuesday.
