Pirates rally to take series

GREENVILLE — East Carolina trailed
Tulane 4-3 in their American Athletic Conference contest at Clark-LeClair
Stadium on Friday night before rallying for four runs in the sixth
inning and four more in the seventh for an 11-4 victory.
The sixth inning scoring came with
two out as ECU improved to 19-12 overall and 3-2 in the AAC by taking
the first two matchups of the three-game set with the Green Wave (19-12,
1-4).
Parker Lamm was aboard on a fielder's
choice in the sixth when Reid Love walked with two down to put runners
at first and second. Charlie Yorgen walked to load the bases before
Travis Watkins' two-run single to left field put the Pirates ahead to
stay at 5-4.
Luke Lowery followed with an RBI
single and Bryce Harman's single scored another run as ECU went ahead,
7-4.
Yorgen had an RBI single in the
seventh and Lowery had a two-run triple to right center.
Harman had solo home runs for the
Pirates in the second and fourth innings, going 3-for-4 on the evening
with three RBIs.
Lowery had two hits and three RBIs.
Love and Yorgen each had two hits. Love had a solo homer in the fifth
after Tulane had taken a 4-2 lead with three runs in the top of the
frame.
Jimmy Boyd (3-7) pitched four and
one-third innings for the win. He allowed three hits, no runs, no walks
and struck out nine.
Starter Evan Kruczynski yielded five
hits over four and two-thirds innings. Tulane scored four runs, two
earned, during his mound tenure. Kruczynski walked one and struck out
three.
ECU outhit Tulane, 13-8. The Pirates
were charged with one error while the Wave committed three.
Lex Kaplan had a solo homer in the
second as Tulane took a 1-0 lead.
The final game of the series is
scheduled for noon today.
