GREENVILLE — East Carolina
left-hander Reid Love pitched a four-hit shutout as the Pirates muzzled
Tulane 3-0 at Clark-LeClair Stadium on Thursday night.
Kirk Morgan had two hits and two RBIs
to help ECU improve to 18-12 overall and 2-2 in the American Athletic
Conference.
Love (3-2) aided his own cause with a
hit and a run scored. He didn't issue a walk and struck out six in his
fourth career complete game.
Charlie Yorgen was 2-for-4 for the
Pirates with an RBI.
Yorgen singled to start a two-run
fourth inning for ECU. Luke Lowery had a one-out single through the
right side that moved Yorgen to third. Eric Tyler drew a two-out walk to
load the bases before a two-out single through the right side by Morgan
drove in a pair of runs for a 2-0 Pirates lead.
Love singled up the middle to start
off ECU's fifth. He went to second on a ground out to first by Hunter
Allen. Love took third on a wild pitch and scored on a single by Yorgen
after Garrett Brooks walked. That gave the Pirates a 3-0 advantage.
ECU turned three double plays.
John Gandolfo and Hunter Williams
each went 2-for-3 for Tulane (19-11, 1-3). Corey Merrill (1-3) went the
route for the Green Wave.
Game two of the three-game series is
scheduled for 6:30 this evening.
