Southern Mississippi
The Golden Eagles are tied
for first place in Conference USA with a 16-7 league ledger (33-16
overall) after sweeping Memphis to finish off a 4-0 week. Southern Miss
outscored its opponents 45-11 on the week, scoring at least nine runs in
each outing.
In 49 games this spring,
the Golden Eagles have hit 116 doubles and 46 homers, surpassing their
2001 total of 102 and 44, respectively, over 59 games.
Freshman second baseman
JARRETT HOFFPAUIR hit .429 last week with a double,
his
first collegiate home run and his first stolen base.
Senior outfielder JEFF COOK
hit .375 with three stolen bases, three double and five runs batted in,
raising his team-leading RBI total to 55.
Junior third baseman ALLEN
WINNINGHAM (team-leading .366 with 19 doubles, seven homers and 34 RBI)
will miss the rest of the season after suffering a broken left fibula.
