All Pirate bats strike a blow

East Carolina won Sunday's series finale at Southern Miss, 11-7, after dropping the first two games. Every ECU starter had at least one hit in the game, led by junior outfielder BEN SANDERSON, who was 4-for-4 with a double, his first home run of the season and three runs batted in.

Lawhorn challenges Watkins' mark

Freshman first baseman DARRYL LAWHORN reached base in 12 of his 14 plate appearances in the Southern Miss series, getting six hits and walking six times. In Sunday's win, he walked four times, including once with the bases loaded.

Over the weekend, Lawhorn broke the school's freshman season record for RBIs (he now has 53) and hits (87). He's just 11 hits shy of tying the school's single season record of 98, set in 1993 by Pat Watkins.

Lawhorn ranks among the nation's top three freshmen in home runs (15) and batting average (.429).
