Dougherty gets C-USA special teams honor

East Carolina senior punter Ryan Dougherty was named Conference USA special teams player of the week for his play last Saturday in the Pirates' 31-21 win over Virginia, according to a release from the ECU athletic media relations department.

Fueled by a career-best 72-yarder in the first quarter, the Orlando, FL, native averaged a season-high 55.7 yards per punt. In the fourth quarter he scored the Pirates final touchdown of the game as the holder on a fake field goal attempt from two yards out, marking the second time in his career that he has rushed for a touchdown.

A Ray Guy Watch List nominee, Dougherty booted the seventh-longest punt in ECU history and longest since 2002. For his career, he now has 203 punts for 8,657-yards, which ranks third all-time in C-USA.

In addition to his stellar punting duties, he had six kickoffs for 369 yards (61.5 yard per kick), including a pair of touchbacks.

Dougherty joined Tulane quarterback Lester Ricard, the offensive player of the week, and UAB linebacker Joe Henderson, the defensive player of the week, as this week's C-USA honorees.

Pirate promotions abound for Tulsa game

Following three consecutive exciting home games against Memphis, West Virginia and Virginia, the East Carolina athletic department has announced three additional promotions to coincide with Band and Scout Day for the home game against Tulsa on Saturday, according to an ECU athletic media relations release:

TAKE A KID TO THE GAME

Any adult who purchases a regular-priced ticket may receive a free child's ticket when asking for the Take a Kid to the Game promotion. Entering its 12th year, the Take A Kid to the Game (TAKG) program provides NCAA member institutions a national grassroots program that is easily implemented at NCAA football and men's and women's basketball games. This nationally recognized program encourages adults to take children to collegiate athletic contests.

CHICK-FIL-A PIRATE KIDS CLUB DAY

All members of the Chick-Fil-A Pirate Kids Club will receive free admission this Saturday. Simply present your membership card to the ticket office to redeem your free ticket. Kids Club Members are also reminded to stop by Chick-Fil-A in the Colonial Mall to receive a free Chick-Fil-A sandwich or nuggets by showing your membership card on Friday, Oct. 13, from 5:30-7:30 p.m.

PEPSI FAMILY ZONE

Enjoy this week's game in the Pepsi Family Zone. This package includes four tickets, four slices of Pizza Hut Pizza and Four Pepsis for $75. Seating is located in section 220. Tickets are available online or by calling the ticket office at 1-800-DIAL-ECU.

SCOUT DAY
