Compiled from staff reports

Camels expected to name football coach
Campbell set a news
conference at 2 p.m. today to name a new football coach for the club team
program that will take the field in 2008. Sources indicated that former
Denver Broncos back-up quarterback and recently-dismissed Liberty coach Ken
Karcher was in line for the position, although former East Carolina
assistant Dale Steele was also a finalist for the job.
Rice
leads C-USA contingent on A-A team
A record five
Conference USA players have been named to the 2006 Baseball America first
team All-American squad, occupying six different positions, according to the
league web site.
Houston junior
pitcher/designated hitter Brad Lincoln, the 2006 Conference USA Pitcher of
the Year, was named to the first team as both a pitcher and a utility
player. He becomes the first C-USA player to earn first team All-America
honors at two positions in the same season.
A trio of Rice players,
senior right-hander Eddie Degerman, sophomore lefthander Cole St. Clair and
sophomore shortstop Brian Friday, were listed on the first team, along with
C-USA Player of the Year Mark Hamilton of Tulane.
Rice junior third
baseman Josh Rodriguez was named to the third team.
K-State, UCLA announce football dates
Kansas State will be
playing a home-and-home football series with UCLA, according to The
Manhattan Mercury.
K-State will travel on
Sept. 12, 2009, to play the Bruins in the Rose Bowl in Pasadena. The return
trip will come on Sept. 4, 2010, when UCLA visits Bill Snyder Family
Stadium.
"We are excited about
the opportunity to face a program with the storied tradition of UCLA," said
KSU coach Ron Prince, a former Virginia assistant who was considered for
East Carolina's coaching vacancy in 2004. "Our goal in scheduling will
continue to focus on balancing the rigors of Big 12 Conference play with
allowing our program to compete on a national stage. I believe the addition
of this series to our future schedules helps us accomplish this.''
Kansas State's trip to
southern California in 2009 will mark the first-ever meeting between the two
programs in football. K-State played in Los Angeles as recently as 2001,
when the Wildcats knocked off Southern California, 10-6. Overall, K-State is
4-2-1 in games played in California.
