GREENVILLE — The winners
on day one of the first-ever NCAA baseball regional to be staged in
Clark-LeClair Stadium were South Carolina and Mother Nature.
The second-seeded
Gamecocks trounced third-seeded George Mason 11-3 in a rain-impeded
opener on Friday that began at 3:00 p.m. and stretched over four hours.
That set the stage for No.
1 seed East Carolina and fourth-seeded Binghamton to be kept in the
wings by thunderstorms past 10 p.m., when their game was postponed until
10 o'clock Saturday morning.
Tournament officials
indicated that fans would still need their "Session 2" ticket stub to
attend the ECU-Binghamton game at its newly-designated time.
The regional's original
schedule will remain intact for the other two games scheduled on
Saturday. George Mason will face the loser of the morning makeup game in
an elimination contest at 2 p.m., while South Carolina will face the
victor of the ECU-Binghamton contest at
6 p.m.
